Can Hair Growth Be Stimulated After Chemotherapy?

The idea that your hair will return quickly and in good condition after chemotherapy is comforting—and with the right care, it’s absolutely possible. Mediceuticals offers a specialised range of products that support new hair growth and help maintain a healthy scalp and hair environment during and after treatment.

For the Best Results

We recommend starting Mediceuticals products before your first chemotherapy session. Always consult a certified Mediceuticals specialist beforehand for personalised advice. In general, the following daily routine is advised:

1. Cleanse the Scalp
   Wash daily using a Mediceuticals shampoo (Folligen, Saturate, Bioclenz, or Hydroclenz). Leave the product on for 2–3 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.
2. Condition the Scalp and Hair
   Follow with Therapeutic or Vitatin conditioner. Again, leave on for 2–3 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
3. Stimulate the Scalp
   Spray Cellagen or Numinox directly onto the scalp and massage in gently with your fingertips. Do not rinse. For optimal results, apply twice daily. A slight redness may appear after application, which typically fades within 20 minutes.
   Note: Do not use these products 24 hours before or after a cold cap treatment.

You can continue using Mediceuticals after chemotherapy to keep your scalp and hair in the best possible condition. During chemotherapy, aim to follow this routine daily. Post-treatment, 3 times per week is usually enough—though Cellagen and Numinox should still be used twice a day for the best outcome.

Hair loss from chemotherapy often comes with increased scalp sensitivity, dryness, flakiness, and occasional discomfort or ‘hair pain’. Here are some helpful tips:

Take Care of Your Scalp

• Gently cleanse and moisturise using Mediceuticals treatments to support scalp health and hair follicle recovery.
• Hydrate deeply with Dual Moist and/or Bao-Med Pure Oil to keep scalp and skin nourished and soft.
• Protect from the elements by wearing a hat or scarf outdoors and applying a high SPF sunscreen to exposed areas of the scalp.

Practical and Comfort Tips

• Consider a wig or hairpiece from a recognised specialist for expert guidance.
• Switch to silk or satin pillowcases to reduce friction while sleeping, which helps protect delicate regrowth and keeps moisture locked in.

For Other Skin Concerns

If chemotherapy is causing dry, itchy, or irritated skin on other parts of the body:

• Mix a few drops of Bao-Med Pure Oil with Dual Moist to create a rich, soothing cream.
• In the shower or bath, try our Bao-Med Pure Body Wash Oil. Massage into damp skin until it forms a soft, silky foam, then rinse with lukewarm water.
